Why Arabic falls apart in some apps
An app has to do two things to show Arabic: pick each letter's joined shape for its place in the word, and lay the line out right to left. Apps without Arabic support (older Photoshop or Illustrator without the Middle Eastern text engine, some video editors, game engines, LED sign software) skip both, so the letters come out separated and in reverse order.
This tool does both steps for the app: it replaces each letter with its joined form (Unicode's "presentation forms", including the لا ligature) and reverses each line, keeping English words and numbers in reading order and mirroring brackets. Pasted into such an app, the text then looks right. The reverse mode turns fixed text back into normal Arabic.
Why we built this tool
Use it for a heading in a design, a title in a video, a caption in a game or a line on a sign, in an app that shows Arabic broken and has no setting to fix it.
If your app does support Arabic, turn that on instead: in Photoshop, choose Middle Eastern and South Asian under Preferences, Type. Fixed text is no longer ordinary Arabic: it cannot be searched, spell-checked or edited normally, and long paragraphs that the app wraps will break. Keep your original text.
Tips and common mistakes
- Fix one line at a time if the app wraps text: wrapping happens after the fix and puts the parts in the wrong order.
- Leave tashkeel off unless you need it: apps that cannot shape Arabic often place the marks badly.
- Choose an Arabic font in the app; the joined forms need a font that has them (most Arabic fonts do).
- To edit the text later, turn it back with the reverse mode, change it, and fix it again.
Quick start: using Arabic Text Fixer for Photoshop & CapCut
- Type or paste your Arabic text.
- Copy the result.
- Paste it into a text layer in your app and choose an Arabic font.
- For a fixed text you received, choose Turn fixed text back into normal Arabic.
Why Arabic breaks, and the proper fix in Photoshop and other programs, is explained in Arabic letters disconnected or reversed?. For text on images, Add Text to Image writes Arabic correctly without any of this.
Frequently asked questions
Does it work for Photoshop?
Yes, for versions or setups without the Middle Eastern text engine. If your Photoshop has the option, turning it on (Preferences, Type) is better.
Why are the English words and numbers not reversed?
They read left to right, so the tool keeps each run of them in its normal order while reversing the Arabic around them.
Can I turn the result back into normal Arabic?
Yes: choose the reverse mode and paste the fixed text.
